Ladder Test Planner

Lay out each charge step, total rounds to load, and quick notes to carry into your next range trip.

The lowest powder charge in this test series. Begin from current published data for the exact cartridge and components, and follow its work-up instructions.
The highest charge the planner may include. Never exceed the maximum in current published data, and stop lower if pressure signs or unexpected velocity appear.

Use your published or pressure-tested ceiling.

The powder increase between adjacent test steps. Choose an increment appropriate for the case capacity and published load range.

Consistent increments help spot flat spots.

How many cartridges to load at each charge. More rounds improve the usefulness of velocity and group statistics but consume more components.

Common choices: 3 for ladders, 5 for OCW.

Record either cartridge overall length (COAL) or cartridge base-to-ogive length (CBTO), including the unit and method so every step uses the same seating setup.

Document the CBTO or COAL for the batch.

Keeps reminder text with the plan.

Charge stepsThe number of distinct powder charges from the entered starting charge through the maximum, inclusive.
Total roundsCharge steps multiplied by rounds per step.
Charge spreadThe difference in grains between the highest and lowest planned powder charge.
