Start with the setup that was actually used

I select the firearm, optic configuration, ammunition batch, and distance before I enter correction data. A range card that is detached from its setup is just a set of numbers.

The card should make it easy to answer: which exact combination did this reflect, and when was it confirmed?

Give every correction context

I include the conditions that meaningfully shaped the session and keep an observation separate from a calculated value. That makes it easier to decide whether a note applies to a future trip.

• Use the same units shown by the optic or workflow
• Record the target distance and confirmation date
• Keep wind calls as observations
• Label an estimated value as estimated
• Reconfirm after a meaningful equipment or lot change

Use the card as a living record

A good range card is updated by confirmed results. It should not hide uncertainty or turn an old session into a promise about the next one.
